THE Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League will kick-start their season early next month with 20 teams – each consisting of six players, writes Barry Knott.

The decision was taken at a committee meeting on Wednesday night despite increased Covid-19 restrictions regarding licensed premises.

The league will commence on Wednesday, November 4, with two divisions but there will have to be flexibility about match nights because of the availability of alleys.

“We have arranged fixtures and we will see how things go,” said league chairman Dave Bright yesterday. “The league fully understands why some teams do not want to play and respects their views.”

Fixtures (November 4 or 6) – Division One: Bell Green v Rebels, Relyon v Holywell Lake, Reservists v Wardens, OBA v Cottage Pies, Angels v Hot Shots. Division Two – (November 5 or 6): Homeguard 4 v Outsiders, King Pins v Shooters, Here for the Beer v Ex-Servicemen, Fireguard A v Mowers, Queen’s Legs v Oaks. All players and sticker-ups must wear face masks.

Meanwhile, the Ex-Services League held their annual meeting for the 2020-21 season and the following were elected: president Andrew Govier; vice-presidents Kevin Allen, Ken Bird, Keith James; chairman and webmaster Dave Bright; vice-chairman and communications officer David Derrick; secretary Andy Kemp; treasurer and non-team competitions organiser Darren Sparks; Division A representative, sticker-up allocator and joint KO Cup organiser Jamie Milton; Division B representative and joint KO Cup organiser Martin Green; entertainments officer Chris Bullock; honorary auditor Marc Bright.
