THE Ability Counts section of Wellington AFC have marked a successful season with an awards afternoon in the clubhouse.

The group welcome adults and juniors (11 years upwards) with disabilities and other health issues.

They use the 3G pitch at Court Fields School on Sundays and players also compete in the Somerset Ability Counts League.

The coaches, players, helpers and supporters were all thanked during presentations to the three teams – one junior and two senior.

Conway Cladding Ltd was also thanked for sponsoring new kit for all the players.

A special annual award was presented for the first time by club stalwart Colin Waller who recently stepped down as Youth Teams Secretary and Welfare Officer.

The Fox Waller Shield is being presented every year to the outstanding individual across the three teams and the first recipient was Charlie B.

Other award winners: Players’ and supporters’ player: Youth, Connor S; Senior, Nathan Bird. Managers’ player: U16s, Nathy P; League, Brad White; Championship, Alex Gallagher. Most improved: U16s, Caiden G; League, Jen Dennis Championship, Jamie Berry and Cameron H. Top scorers: U16s, Harley R; League, Ollie Churchill; Championship, Chris Matthews. *The Ability Counts section’s three teams are among 30 sides run by Wellington AFC which caters for all age groups.

The first team play in the Jewson Western League while the club field three other senior sides. The Reserves play in the Devon and Exeter League, the A team in the Taunton Saturday League while the Wildcats play in the top division of the Somerset Women's League.

Wellington AFC have more than 20 teams in their youth sections with boys and girls playing from the age of seven through to 18.
