WELLINGTON AFC have announced that player-manager Tornado Bello has stepped down after less than a month in charge.
Bello was appointed to replace Richard Cherry, who left at the end of last season after three years in charge of the Jewson Western League club.
A prolific striker at various clubs in Devon and Somerset, it was his first manager post.
He said in a statement: “This hasn’t been an easy decision, but I need to be honest with myself. After a lot of reflection, I’ve realised I’m not ready to be a manager.
“I’m a football player first and foremost, and I believe I’m better suited to being an assistant manager at this stage of my journey.
“I still have a lot to learn before taking on the responsibility of managing a club.
“When I accepted the role, I genuinely believed I was ready, but I underestimated how demanding the job would be.
“Although the timing isn’t ideal with the season so close, I believe this is the right decision. I’d rather step aside now than continue knowing I can’t give the club what it deserves.
“Hopefully, over the next four or five years, I’ll continue learning, gaining experience, and, when the time is right, I’ll be ready to take on a manager’s role again.
“I want to thank everyone at Wellington for giving me the opportunity, and I sincerely wish the club every success..”
Wellington chairman Mike Hall, said: “Naturally we’re very disappointed with Tornado’s decision - particularly with the new season so close.
“But we fully understand and accept his reasons for stepping down and wish him all the best for the future.
“The search for a new manager is already under way and, if anyone is interested in the job, please get in touch.”
