IT WAS another action-packed weekend for Wellington Wildcats’ teams, full of passion, teamwork, and pride. Wildcats remain the only side in the Somerset Girls League to have a team in every age group.

U11s: The youngest Wildcats enjoyed an exciting and memorable match, with three debutants making their first competitive appearances. All three slotted in brilliantly, showing great energy and enthusiasm. It was an even, entertaining contest with both sides creating chances. The Wildcats’ defence stayed strong, midfielders worked tirelessly, and the attack pressed hard throughout. Every player gave their all, showing fantastic spirit and teamwork. A hugely positive performance and another big step forward in their development. Player of the Match: Lily S.

U12s: Determined to bounce back, the Wildcats put on a superb display in a 5–2 win at Wembdon. Sara M scored twice early on, with Emilia S adding two more and Stevie W finishing off a fifth. It was a dominant attacking performance backed by a solid defence. POTM: Summer H for her tireless work and composure.

U13s: History was made as the Wildcats played their first-ever County Cup match, securing a hard-fought 1–0 win over Shepton Mallet. After a tight first half, Scarlett H scored the decisive goal with a superb finish from Peyton A’s pass. The girls showed grit, teamwork, and belief to book their place in the next round. U14s: The Wildcats battled bravely in harsh weather against a strong Shepton Mallet side. Despite being short on numbers, they competed well and showed great teamwork, even as the hosts pulled away. The girls never stopped working and came off proud of their effort and attitude. POTM: Maisie W for her determination and hard work.

U15s: Facing local rivals Bishops Lydeard with only 11 players, the Wildcats showed fantastic spirit and unity. Despite injuries and a tough opponent, they kept fighting, organising their own team talk and finishing strongly with great teamwork and positivity. POTM: Sophie W for her bravery and outstanding goalkeeping.

U16s: In a top-of-the-table clash at Wembdon, the Wildcats fell 9–3 but showed real heart. Emilia S continued her incredible scoring run, joined by goals from McKayla H and Ella D’s superb free kick. Erin C impressed with tireless effort and composure to earn POTM. Despite the scoreline, the girls showed resilience and plenty of positives to build on.

Across all age groups, the Wildcats demonstrated the true spirit of the club — teamwork, effort, and pride in every performance. From first-ever cup wins to debut appearances and moments of individual brilliance, it was a weekend to remember.

Meanwhile, this Saturday, October 11, provides another busy weekend for the Wildcats with the Under 11s being at home to local rivals Bishops Lydeard in South Division (Dobree Park, 9.30a.m.).

In the Under 12 South section Wildcats will be looking to maintain their fine form when the also play Lydeard in a top of the table game at Dobree Park (11.15a.m.).

Wildcats go into their match away to Wessex Youth as the early leaders of Division One in the Under 13 section, while Wildcats Under 15s play Berrow Youth at Court Fields with a 9.30 a.m. kick off.

Wildcats go into their Under 16 match against Burnbridge Wanderers at Court Fields as joint leaders of Division Two (11.30a.m.).
