WELLINGTON’S football manager Clive Jones has ended speculation about his future by announcing he will be staying with the Toolstation League club, writes Barry Knott.
The 53-year-old, who has been a successful manager for 18 years, said: “I’ve had talks with the chairman (Mike Hall) and vice-chairman (Graham Aspin) and told them I want to implement changes at the end of the season and they fully back me.
“I’m not saying what these will be until the season is over. Various people have asked me to stay, including my dad Bungy,” he joked.
Jones has been in charge at Wellington for three years, having steered them to promotion last season, and also enjoyed a successful 15 years at Willand Rovers.
It is known that other clubs had been in touch with him and that he had been considering his future with Wellington. However he has already had a big influence on the playing of the club and Wellington are now set to benefit more from his experience and leadership.
Meanwhile, Jones described his side’s 2-1 defeat away to Chipping Sodbury in the Premier Division on Saturday as “very frustrating.”
He added: “We should have won by three clear goals. We couldn’t score. Even their manager admitted we were the better side. I think it just about sums up our season.”
