WELLINGTON’S soccer manager Clive Jones believes some of his players have already become targets for bigger clubs.
Jones said last night: “I don’t believe so, I know so. Kia Fisher has already been offered money by two clubs.
“I don’t blame anyone for leaving for money; I did it when I left here for Tiverton.
“But it’s my job to try and keep him and all the others. I have to convince them they are better off here.
“Our final position in the league is disappointing – I think we lost it at the beginning of the season when we struggled to win games.
“But we’ve had some good displays and I’ve got some very good players. Other clubs know this too.”
Wellington, who will be holding their annual dinner at the Beambridge Inn, on Saturday, May 7, have given their players all of May off before they return for regular five a side sessions.
Pre-season training will start in July.
Jones is also looking to sign new players to strengthen his squad.
Wellington ended their season in Division One of the Toolstation League with a good 3-0 win at home against Corsham Town over the weekend with Luke Redrup scoring twice to take his tally for the season to 24.
Wellington Reserves will be in action tonight (Wed) when they play away to Heavitree United in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League.
The Reserves are home to Upottery on Saturday while Wellington Thirds are away to Elmore Reserves in Division Seven.
Struggling Hemyock are away to Lyme Regis in Division Two.
