PAUL Pocock will take charge of Wellington’s struggling football side for Saturday’s away game against Brislington in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.

Wellington are still without a point in the division after crashing 8-0 away to Roman Glass St George over the weekend, and manager Clive Jones insists he is not “running away.”

He said: “We did not originally have a fixture on Saturday and so I booked a holiday. That was four months ago.”

But he admitted: “We’re in a hole at the moment. We are playing poorly and the lads know it. We could have scored five goals early in the second half at Roman Glass with the chances we had. But then they scored from 25 yards with a superb shot and we just caved in.

“We are defensively poor throughout the team. Defending starts from the front. Every player has to play a part. I’m trying everything I can to get things right. There is no hiding place. Paul is a different kind of manager to me. He’s more vocal - perhaps that’s what the side needs. We’ll see.”

Pocock, 44, an experienced Toolstation League player, is running the club’s reserve side with Sean Buttle. He is also still playing when required.
