THIS was a good workout for Wellington A in their first pre-season friendly of the summer on Sunday morning. It was played in glorious sunshine, rain and then more blazing hot sun.

Wellington, who have been promoted in Division One of the Taunton Saturday League, included some new faces and they seemed to settle in well.

Thomas Scarlett scored two early goals with some good finishing to put Welly 2-0 up. Lloyd Manning then decided to catch the ball inside his own box to give Nether Stowey a penalty and this was slotted home to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Welly came out in the second half and created a dozen good scoring chances and for better finishing could have six or seven goals. But they did score in the second half through player-manager Luke OHara who netted after a cheeky chipped through ball from Finley Pocock put him through to take a one-touch finish.

The ever present Nigel Letten was solid at the back and even helped Stowey with a superb header off their line onto the bar from a Jordan Sellick cross-come-shot.

Overall this was a good run out with Thomas Scarlett winning the MOTM award.
