WELLINGTON Goaaals Disability Football Club competed in the first round of the Somerset 1 People’s Cup at Strode College Street and did really well by winning their group on goals scored.

They played three matches against Keynsham Mencap, winning the first 3-0 with Alex Gallagher scoring one and James Mayled two.

In their second game Wellington lost 3-1 with James Mayled scoring a consolation goal.

The third game ended in a 1-1 draw with James Mayled scoring a penalty for Wellington.

There were some fine performances from all the players. Martin Gadd was exceptional in goal, pulling off some amazing saves throughout the three games.

George Fox-Reid was a rock at the heart of the defence, breaking up play and turning defence into attack.

Dan Saunders was brilliant through the middle, marauding forward and making last ditch tackles to stop counter attacks.

Alex Gallagher, with his fantastic dribbling skills and turn of pace, was a menace to the Keynsham defence all day.

James Mayled who scored four goals and could have many more had not been for the Keynsham goalkeeper.

Ben Hallows, with his driving runs into the opposition half and his thunderous shot which only just missed the mark.

Charlie Young who was brilliant at breaking up the play and setting Wellington on the front foot for another attack.

Josh Locke was Wellington all-round utility player ,playing in every position on the field, even in goal when Martin got injured.

George Fox-Reid picked up the trophy for the Championship Onet winners.

Wellington now will go on to represent Somerset in the regional finals, with the dates yet to be confirmed.
