WELLINGTON’S football boss Clive Jones has called on his players to ‘cut out childish mistakes’ ahead of two tough home games in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League over the next week.
Wellington, who have lost their last four games and have slipped to 16th in the table, are faced with home matches against Cribbs on Saturday (3.00) and Bridgwater Town on Boxing Day (1.00).
“We gifted Brislington three goals on Saturday (lost 4-0),” said Jones. “We played well enough in the first half and deserved to be in the lead at half time.
“We missed a glorious chance to go ahead and within a few minutes a mistake had cost us a goal. I thought we were the better side for about an hour. I’m not too worried about the way we’re play - it’s individual mistakes which are costing us.
“I told the lads at half time that they have to stop making mistakes. But once we were 3-0 down it was all over.”
Wellington will be looking to avenge a 5-1 away defeat against Cribbs on Saturday while Bridgwater are expected to include a number of ex-Wellington players when they play at the Playing Field on Boxing Day.
However centre back George Painter, who quit Wellington last week, is not expected to play in the Boxing Day clash because he was sent off on his debut for Bridgwater in Saturday’s crucial 4-1 home defeat by Willand Rovers.
“If George thinks he has joined a side which is going to win the league title, he’s wrong,” added Jones. “Bridgwater won’t win the league. Obviously, I’m disappointed to lose him, especially to a fellow Premier Division club.”
Jones is hoping Mitch Woodgate, Jack Bryant, George Rogers and Josh Wadham will all be available to face Cribbs on Saturday.
Wadham, who has been on loan with Southern League Tiverton Town, has now completed a six-match ban.
