WELLINGTON’S young soccer talent Joe Wylie has already attracted the attention of bigger clubs, manager Clive Jones has disclosed.
The 16-year-old has shown maturity beyond his years and broke into Wellington’s first team towards the end of last season - and looked comfortable, particularly when the side was going forward.
“Joe has got a big future ahead of him,” said Jones. “My feeling is that he ought to stay with us for the whole of this season, having just come out of youth football.”
Wellington play away to Cribbs in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday which carries £2,250 in prizemoney for the winner.
Wellington were originally drawn at home to Cribbs but have had to concede home advantage because they cannot play on the Playing Field until next month.
The problem with this is that Wellington start every season by playing a succession of away games.
“It’s far from ideal but there’s nothing we can do about it,” added Jones. “Obviously you play a different game away from what you do at home.”
Wellington Reserves’ opening match in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League is away to Bow Athletic on Saturday, August 24.
They play away to Axminster Town Reserves the following Wednesday.
