THE Ability Counts section of Wellington AFC, which held its annual presentations at the club on Sunday, is looking for new players.
The group welcomes adults and juniors (11 years upwards) with disabilities and other health issues. It uses the 3G pitch at Court Fields School on Sunday afternoons and players also compete in the Somerset Ability Counts League.
The well-attended awards afternoon, held at the club, heard from all three coaches, who reported on another successful year.
Trophies were then presented and the winners included: Under 16s - Player of the Year, Leo. Manager’s Player of the Year, Lawson. Most Improved, Nathy. Golden Boot, Harley.
Adults - Player of the Year, Rob Glover. Manager’s Player of the Year, Gary Corp. Most improved, Stephen Lethaby. Golden Boot, Bradley White.
Adults (Championship) - Player of the Year, Conor Short. Manager’s Player of the Year, Nathan Bird. Most Improved, Jamie Berry and Martin Gadd. Golden Boot, Matt Letherby.
The section is currently taking a short summer break but returns at Court Fields School on Sunday, September 7 (2pm to 4pm). Anyone wishing to join – or needing more information – should call Mike Bird on 07709 142805 or email [email protected].
The Ability Counts section underpins Wellington AFC’s aim to provide “football for all.” Wellington are proud to be a three-star FA Accredited club and run more than 30 teams, providing football for hundreds of men, women, boys and girls throughout the season.
Awards ceremonies have been taking place throughout the summer although the serious action on the pitch is already back under way. The first team have played three games – two in the premier division of the Jewson Western League and one in the Emirates FA Cup.
Meanwhile, friendlies have taken place for many of the other sides whose league programmes start over the next few weeks.
