WELLINGTON A are through to the next round of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League’s KO Cup after this victory over Cougars at The Castle School, Taunton, last Friday evening.

Cougars, a physical but fine footballing side, came flying out of the traps and went 1-0 ahead early on. Welly slowly grew into the game and from a quick throw Aaron Merry struck an equaliser.

In the second half Welly continued to grow into the game which Creech dominated for large chunks of the first half.

The ever hard working Merry bagged himself a second goal while Jordan Sellick got himself onto the score sheet with a well worked team goal. Creech continued to play football and pulled it back to 3-2 but could not find an equaliser.

Welly now face the winner of Stogursey and Galmington Dragons tie. There were many calls for man of the match as all 12 players who turned up put a real shift in.

It was a fantastic result in what is likely to be my last game in charge of this fantastic team. I would like to thank everyone for the last two and a half seasons – two promotions and a cup final win is something I’ll never forget.

Over the course of the next few weeks I’ll be handing the reins over to Mark Johnson and Steven Cooney, two guys who have bags of managerial experience who will help push this team onto the next level.
