WELLINGTON will be looking to bounce back after their unlucky defeat at Hallen when they play at home to former Southern League side Shortwood United in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League on Saturday (3.00), writes Barry Knott.

A late penalty robbed Wellington of at least a draw at Hallen who won 2-1.

"It was unfortunate but we didn’t play very well," said Wellington boss Clive Jones. "If we had played better we wouldn’t have needed luck.

"We fell behind but then managed to turn it around and also hit the woodwork."

Wellington now face a spell of four games in ten days. They will also be in action again next Wednesday - when they are again at home against Buckland Athletic.

"I have a surplus of players so I will be changing things around," added Jones. "We have been improving but I thought Saturday we took two steps backward."

Wellington will again be without goalscoring midfielder Josh Wadham, who is still on holiday, but George Painter and Glen Wright will both be available.

Shortwood finished second from bottom of Southern League Division One West last season and are struggling again - they have not won a game yet this season. On Saturday they lost 3-1 at home to Cadbury Heath.

Wellington Reserves will also be looking for a better result than on Saturday - they lost 5-2 at home to University 2nds - when they play away to Kentisbeare in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League. Hemyock are home to St Martins in Division Four.

Wellington A play Porlock Reserves in the Taunton Saturday League’s Seward Cup at the Castle Sports Hall in Taunton on Friday (8.00).
