WELLINGTON have fixed up five pre-season football friendlies – all away because their ground at the Playing Field is being used for cricket.

They begin with an away match against Minehead on Thursday, August 6. Others are: Thursday, August 13, Axminster Town; Wednesday, August 19, Middlezoy Rovers; Wednesday, August 26, Exwick Villa; Friday, September 4 Topsham Town.

“We will be looking to give everyone an opportunity from last season and also those new players who have turned up for pre-season training,” said assistant manager Alex Pope.

Following the return of grassroots football, the games will have to be played in accordance with Government guidelines which includes behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, Bishops Lydeard’s new manager Olly Feltham has also arranged five pre-season friendlies next month – two at home and three away.

Fixtures: Saturday, August 8, away v Bridport (kick off 1pm); Saturday, August 15, home v Chard Town (2pm); Wednesday, August 19, away v Street (7.30pm); Saturday, August 22, home v Wells City Reserves (3pm); Saturday, August 29, away v Glastonbury (3pm).
