WELLINGTON’S young and inexperienced side suffered another heavy defeat when they went down 8-0 at home to Bovey Tracey in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.

The Tangerines had been unable to play at the Carly Press Ground until September because of cricket.

But it was an unhappy homecoming as they were put to the sword by newly promoted Bovey Tracey who completed an early double, having won 4-2 when the teams met in Devon on the opening day of the season.

The game got off to a bad start for Wellington when they fell behind after just four minutes, Levi Roberts flicking a header from a corner inside the far post.

Stu Bowker pounced on a back pass to double Bovey’s advantage after 24 minutes, and just a minute later an unfortunate own goal made it 3-0.

Charlie Castlehouse added a fourth in the 28th minute, heading home after a Bovey effort had been deflected high into the air.

The visitors continued to dominate and Rudi McKinnon headed home a cross at the far post seven minutes later to give Bovey a commanding 5-0 lead at the interval.

There was little respite for Wellington after the break and McKinnon headed home his second from a corner nine minutes into the second half.

Bowker then took advantage of another Wellington mistake to score his second and make it 7-0 after 63 minutes.

Two minutes later, Josh Webber drove home Bovey’s eighth to complete their scoring.

To their credit, Wellington continued to battle and came closest to a consolation goal in the 88th minute when James Rowe volleyed just over on the turn.
