WELLINGTON side Moortown St Malachy’s stormed to an 11-0 home win over Strong Mentality in the second division of the Somerset Sunday Football League.

Ben Evett put Moortown ahead in the tenth minute, latching on to a through ball by Daley Ashman, and Sean Conway made it 2-0 in the 15th minute after good play by Evett and Tom Bernard.

Luke Perry scored with a nice finish from an Evett assist and Sean Conway netted again. Evett scored a fifth and Bernard netted the sixth.

Sean Conway and Evett went on to complete their hat-tricks during the second-half of a one-sided game, and there were also goals for Aaron Chugg, Alex Conway and goalkeeper Charlie Hawkings who netted with a blistering header.

It was Moortown’s second win in eight days and they are the early leaders of the division along with Cotford Rovers who also have six points from two matches.

Meanwhile, Moortown play away on Sunday, September 13, to Northwalls United who lost 3-2 at home to AFC Dunster last weekend.

Moortown will become the outright leaders of the division because Cotford are involved in a Mike Stewart Cup tie against Terry’s Panthers at Bridgwater College Academy.
