WELLINGTON Reserves got off to the best possible start to their home fixtures in the Premier Division of the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter Football League by beating 100 per centers Colyton 4-2.

Wellington took the lead after only five minutes. After a flowing move, Alfie Barrett was sent clear and he hit a low shot past the keeper from just inside the box. They came close to increasing the lead when skipper Jack Bryant hit the bar.

A second goal came after 25 minutes when Jack Bryant ran on to a lovely ball down the line from Ollie Ackland. He cut into the area and sent a low shot across the keeper into the opposite corner to make it 2-0.

With half-time approaching Ben Evett increased the lead, jinking across the edge of the box and sending a low curling shot into the bottom corner.

Evett was unlucky not to score his second early in the second half when his effort was somehow ruled offside.

Colyton, now with four up front, started coming into the game and, when a low cross was poorly headed away, the ball was lobbed back over everyone and into the top corner leaving keeper Charlie Hawkings with no chance.

Wellington needed to respond and what a goal it was from player-of-the-match Ackland who turned his marker and drove at the box, skipped past two defenders and hit a shot from inside the box past the keeper.

With the game nearing the end, Colyton scored a second goal from a disputed corner. As the ball was swung in, it was not cleared and was then hit home from inside the six-yard box.
