WELLINGTON Wildcats fought out a 3-3 home draw against Midsomer Norton in the Under 16 section of the Somerset Girls Football League, leaving both teams equal on points at the top.

Midsomer looked to attack early on and won a corner almost immediately, and took the lead inside two minutes with a disputed goal.

Midsomer enjoyed possession on both flanks using their speed and size, requiring Darcey, Immy, Jess and Hallie to be on their toes.

Just as Wildcats started to settle somewhat a quick counter caught the defence flat-footed and their striker produced a composed finish under the pressure of keeper Sophie to double the lead.

Wildcats grew into the game with Lola and Flo G on both wings and Emilia looking sharp, with one effort hitting the crossbar.

The half time team talk focused on positional awareness and communication, to which the Wildcats took on board from the kick off, finding a 7 pass move which set the tone for the half with Emilia getting a shot off.

Flo N, and Faith NH linked up well, and the balls in the channel were creating space for opportunities. Frankie, Isla, Faith D and debutant Anya all made excellent contributions in defence and attack.

Emilia on 50 minutes ‘won‘ a penalty that Faith NH dispatched; then a well worked short corner found Faith who levelled the scores.

With all to play for, Wildcats pressed on and Faith fired home a shot from near the penalty spot to put the Wildcats in the lead and to complete a fine hat-trick.

A mistake in the backline then set up Midsomer to score a superb equaliser from 18 yards with ten tense minutes remaining.

The game was played at great intensity from both sets of players giving everything in a bid to score the winner. Player of the match went for Faith NH.
