WELLINGTON Association Football Club Under U16s marked their final season in the Taunton and District Youth League with a presentation evening in the clubhouse on Sunday.

Co-managed by Tom Richards, John Stanyard and Luke Bryant, the squad now move up into South Division in the Western Counties Floodlight Youth League for U18s. Wellington competed in this division during the past season where they finished a creditable fourth, behind Tiverton Town (winners), Street and Willand Rovers.

Wellington Under 16s finished third in the Taunton Youth League this season after an agonising final game saw them suffer defeat when a draw would have seen them win the league.

Tom Richards said: “I would like to thank the players, parents and Jon and Luke for making this set of boys’ youth football such a success.

“Our time included a league cup win and a relegation - we really did experience it all together.

“We are looking forward to taking the boys on as Wellington U18s and continue their development and transition into men’s football, creating a pathway into the club’s senior sides.” Award winners included: Most improved player – Harvey M; Top scorer – Charlie L; Coach’s player – Joshua S; Coach’s player – Filip L; Coach’s player – Ollie H; Fans’ player – Ollie H; Players’ player – Ollie H; Most goal contributions – Charlie L and Joshua S; Sportsmanship award – Joby H.

Tom, Jon and Luke were also presented with scrolls to mark their service as youth managers.

*Wellington AFC, a three-star FA Credited club, have come to the end of another memorable season in which they have provided football for hundreds of men, women, boys and girls.

It has also been a season in which much work has gone into improving facilities at the Carly Press Ground, including the installation of new corner-mounted floodlights.

Few other clubs in Somerset field nearly 30 teams - catering for almost all age groups.
