WELLINGTON A bounced back from the previous week’s defeat by coming from behind to beat Nether Stowey 3-1 in the first division of the Centregate Taunton & District Saturday Football League on the all-weather pitch at Court Fields School.

With manager Connor Porter back in the dugout, the squad was rotated with several changes to the starting XI. Wellington A found themselves behind at the break, trailing 1–0, as keeper Chris McKee kept them in the game with a crucial first-half save from a penalty.

The Tangerines made three changes at the break, and the impact was immediate. Substitute Jordan Sellick came off the bench to make a huge difference, going on to score a hat-trick and turn the game on its head.

Wellington continued to create chances throughout the match, hitting the woodwork on no fewer than five occasions as they piled pressure on the visitors.

The game took another turn when Nether Stowey had a player sent off, making the hosts’ task that little bit easier.

Wellington took full advantage, controlling the remainder of the game and securing a well-earned victory. A special mention goes to joint players-of-the-match Jimmy Groves, who put in an excellent performance at the back, and Sellick, who deserves huge credit for his match-winning hat-trick after coming off the bench.

It was a strong second-half response from Wellington, and a welcome return to winning ways.

It was Wellington’s second win in four games in the division and they now sit fifth in the table although they have played more matches than anyone else.
