WELLINGTON Wildcats U12s were involved in a closely contested game against Minehead, with the visitors eventually securing a 3–1 victory after taking control in the later stages in Under 12 South Division in the Somerset Girls Football League, writes Georgia Purdy.

The Wildcats competed well throughout the first half, with little to separate the two sides. Their goal came from Isla H, who showed a fantastic burst of pace to get beyond the Minehead defence before finishing emphatically into the bottom corner. The teams went into half-time level at 1–1, with everything still to play for.

The second half remained competitive, but Minehead gradually began to take control as the game progressed, scoring twice to secure the victory.

Player of the Match was Abbey T, who put in an excellent performance in goal. She produced a number of impressive saves and commanded her area confidently throughout, showing great awareness to come off her line and prevent several dangerous Minehead counter-attacks.

There were plenty of positives for the Wildcats to take from another competitive fixture, with the girls continuing to gain valuable match experience and develop together as a team.

Meanwhile, Wildcats’ U11s played their first ever away game with a long trip to Wincanton. The girls’ passion, effort and determination shone through, with players going into new positions for the first time.

A player went in goal for the first time and said “I will try because we don’t ever give up”.
