WELLINGTON Town ended their season on a high with a hard fought 3-2 home victory over Wembdon Dragons in the Under 15 section of the Taunton and District Youth Football League.
In an evenly matched first half, it was Town who made the initial breakthrough - Ryan M finding the bottom left hand corner to give the hosts a deserved lead on 15 minutes. Town could have doubled their lead when a great switch from Ryan M found Finn H who made a great run down the right wing, who then put a delightful cross in for Jack B who hit the cross bar with a cracking right footed shot.
Town ended the first half the stronger and deserved the lead with the new partnerships in defence holding well.
Town doubled their lead shortly after the break, Alfie P latching latching onto a loose ball at the edge of the area for his first league goal for the club.
But Wembdon, who ousted Town in the league cup earlier in the season, were always a threat on attack. And with 30 minutes left to play - the visitors found their spark. A long range effort on 50 minutes halved the deficit, before an own goal from a threatening Wembdon corner saw them draw level moments later.
Town and Wembdon battled extremely hard with both sides conceding unnecessary free kicks with Wembdon getting the more and more frustrated with not being able to break the Town midfield and defence for a third time.
However, it was Town who would have the final say - Matt T with a glancing header five minutes from time to seal a deserved victory for the home side, one they'll look to build on over the closed season during training sessions.
