WELLINGTON United secured their first win of the season - on home soil - 4-2 in a hard fought match against Minehead Eagles in Division Three of the Under 13 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

After the last two games not going in Wellington’s favour, the boys stepped up knowing they had to do something about it, going a goal down in the first 25 minutes after conceding a penalty.

Wellington took the fight to Minehead with CDM Vinnie T finding himself in the box to slot home the equaliser to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half started pretty even until Blake M, who was playing on the left wing, picked up the ball and skillfully put it in the net assisted by Leo U. However, Wellington were caught off guard and Minehead equalised making it 2-2.

The home team kept pushing until an assist from Theo K resulted in another ball being put away by Blake M after forcing a keeper error and tapping the ball in the bottom corner. Then with 15 minutes left Blake M found himself through on goal again securing his hat trick and to make it 4-2 to the home side.

With a few free kicks given away near the home goal the visitors failed to capitalise on these and Wellington held strong until the final whistle ended the game at 4-2 to Wellington Utd.

Manager Steve Newstead said afterwards: “Let’s take this win and take the confidence into future games moving forward”.

Coach Richard Upham said: “The hard work is paying off; we wanted the win and the boys didn’t disappoint. Well done to MOTM Blake M. Also a big thank-you to our kit sponsor The Gutter Doctor.
