WELLINGTON United ended their season in Division Three of the Under 13 section in the HO Soccer Taunton & District Youth Football League with a great 8-3 home win over Staplegrove Youth - a team they had failed to beat in their previous three meetings.
The Wellington boys started strongly and continued strong until the scoring started at 13 minutes - thanks to Blake M who subsequently scored again on 23 minutes.
The Wellington back line held off an ever pressing Staplegrove up to 27 minutess when the visitors bagged their first goal. Wellington scored another before the break making it 3-1 at the interval - thanks to Jimmy C who was playing only his second competitive match. Blake M bagged another early in the second half - in the first two minutes - putting the visitors on the back foot again. However Grove scored again two minutes after.
With the Wellington boys on a high they played some great link up football and at 42 minutes midfielder Zach W increased their lead. Following a few changes to the positions and Jack M found himself in front of goal netting another after 54 minutes.
The hosts pushed for glory and found it with Blake M scoring in 64 and 65 minutess, but the visitors kept pressing and with the hosts conceding a corner Staplegrove found another late goal at 69 minutes. But by then the result was beyond doubt and United had recorded a fine victory over a side who will finish a very respectable third in the table, behind winners Spaxton JFC and FC Rhinos. Manager Steve Newstead and Coach Richard Upham both commented on how great the boys played and how it was a great way end to the season.
United are likely to finish fifth in the table, having won six and lost eight of their 14 league games.
