WELLINGTON Wildcats, chasing back-to-back wins, were beaten 6-1 away by Odd Down in the first division of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

Forced to make three late changes, Wildcats managed to hold their shape with keeper Jas making one exceptional reaction save early on. Emilia, Nieve and Milly were creative but were unable to hit the target.

However, Wildcats fell behind after 22 minutes, but nearly levelled from the restart with Emilia forcing an exceptional save.

A change was forced on 28 minutes, with Jess suffering an awkward fall with Isla stepping into the centre with captain Emily.

Odd Down made it 2-0 after 31 minutes with a controversial penalty but Wildcats played their best football of the half after this.

Lola helped control the game, Leah on the left, Robyn on the right with Nieve and Milly through the middle, and Emilia up top causing all sorts of problems. Emilia first hit the post, Milly saw her effort rattle of the crossbar and an Emilia effort had the same result. Nieve then saw her shot on 44 minutes also hit the crossbar.

Wildcats went out in the second half with a plan but were put on the backfoot almost immediately with an injury to Nieve and having adjusted the team with available players saw Odd Down take the initiative, scoring three times in six minutes.

The introduction of player manager Georgia, although not at 100%, helped restore the equilibrium and find balance within the team.

The mix of experienced heads Emily and Georgia, working with Jess, Immy, Lola, Isla and Taiya, all U18s, worked well and no further clear cut chances were created until on 77 minutes, a corner ended with Odd Down scoring again.

Wildcats pulled a goal back with a fantastic goal by Milly - just reward for her afternoon’s hard work. Player of the Match: Lola.
