FOLLOWING on from a humbling at the hands on Wellington A, Hemyock had the perfect opportunity to get themselves back on track with another friendly against Awliscombe at Longmead on Tuesday of last week.

Awliscombe made the short trip down the hill and gave Hemyock another good test as new manager Sam Iddon frantically tries to decide who will be in his starting 11 when the league season finally gets under way on Saturday, September 19.

The game ended in a 1-0 victory to Hemyock with the only goal coming from 16 year old Tom Amor, who drilled home a superb volley from a cross by old timer Jake Welch.

Last Saturday (August 29) Hemyock faced their toughest test yet, travelling to face newly formed Axminster Reserves. The new Axminster team is made up mostly of players with Devon and Exeter League Premier Division experience and they ultimately proved too strong for Hemyock. Despite a 9-1 loss, Iddon was a lot happier with what he saw from his players compared to the Wellington A performance.

The games continue to come thick and fast for Hemyock without getting any easier. Last Tuesday (September 1) Hemyock were set to travel to Minehead Reserves while they welcome Wellington Reserves tomorrow (Saturday, September 5).

These tricky fixtures should allow Iddon to learn all he needs about his new squad and allow him to pick his strongest team for when competitive matches begin.
