WELLINGTON play one of the slicker sides in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Football League when the face Bitton at home on Saturday (3.00).
Although down in tenth place, Bitton have games in hand on most of the sides above them and are also through to the last 16 of the FA Vase.
“They have good strikers and we can expect them to come at us,” said Wellington manager Tim Legg. “We played some good football at Chipping Sodbury on Saturday and I was disappointed with the result (lost 3-1). We led 1-0 at half time but it should have been more.
“We’re a bit naïve when we go behind – we need to be more resilient. We react poorly when we concede.”
Wellington will have youngsters Joe Wylie and Ollie Holman back in the squad after the pair played for Devon’s successful Under 18 side over the weekend.
“I’m glad to have them back – but it’s not ideal for us when they are away. But at the same time I’m glad for them.”
Legg added: “I think we have quality in the side but we need to show more character. We will be working hard in training this week because we want to stay in this league.”
Wellington still have to win a game under Legg but there have been signs of improvement in recent weeks.
They will now be targeting matches in a bid to pull away from the bottom of the table.
At the top end of the table, Plymouth Parkway and Bradford Town share the lead with 46 points from 18 games.
Meanwhile Wellington Reserves, who play in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League, have no match this weekend while Hemyock are away to Axmouth United in Division Three.
