MOST of the west’s top professional golfers, including some who play regularly on the European Tour, will be competing in the annual two-day PGA Total Triumph Classic at Oake Manor Golf Club, writes Barry Knott.
Ninety-five pros with the same number of amateur players will be in action tomorrow (Thurs) with an 8p.m. start.
The top 35 pros and ties will carry their scores through to Friday, with another 8p.m. start, in the chase for £12,000 in prizemoney, with £2,200 worth of prizes going to the top amateurs tomorrow.
It also kicks off the first of the West Region’s events for the summer, and one of the hopefuls will be Oake’s Matt Turner who was in contention with a round of 66 on day one last year before falling away. Turner joined Oake Manor earlier in the year as a PGA trainee.
Also teeing off tomorrow will be a newcomer to Oake, Joe Jewell who comes from Devon. The par at Oake Manor is 70 and all the pro players will be playing off scratch.
This is a rare chance for locals to watch some of the best golfers in the West.
It is one of two big tournaments being staged at Oake this year, the other being its pro-am on Friday, September 6.
