WELLINGTON'S hopes of a good run in the FA Cup this season were dashed when they lost 2-0 at home to Southern League outfit Bideford yesterday (Sat), the tie having been switched to Willand in Devon.
The game was marred, however, by a 28th minute injury to Wellington midfielder Keiran Ireland, who suffered a fractured tibia and will be out of the game for a long spell.
The result was a disappointment for Wellington who had been hoping to cash in on the money available to the winners of this tie, £1,150 going to the winners of this extra preliminary round match.
Ryan Turner put the North Devon side ahead in the 18th minute and Finn Roberts drove home a second with a shot which took a deflection in the 73rd minute.
Wellington finished the game with only ten men after Glen Wright limped off a few minutes from the end.
Wellington will be back in action next Saturday when they play away to Torpoint Athletic in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.
