ALEX Pope, who stepped down as joint manager of Wellington last month, is having talks with Southern League club Tiverton Town with the view to joining them.
Pope said today: “I have been in discussions with them but nothing has been decided. They have a manager so it is in regard to a coaching job.
“I also have to consider my coaching business in Exeter and how it would fit in because there is more travelling involved with Tiverton. Nothing has been decided.”
Meanwhile, Wellington’s new manager Richard Cherry says he is confident most of last season’s players want to continue playing for the club.
“There are one or two who are considering playing for clubs at a higher level, but that’s always the case at this time of the year,” he said.
“I shall also be looking at continuing the policy of using loan players from pro clubs if I need to. It’s good to have such contacts.
“Pre-season training starts in a fortnight and we shall be using the all-weather pitch at Wellington School to start with. Before this I will be holding a players meeting to discuss what I want from them
“There are also some potential new players who want to join us. There are a couple of names in the frame."
Cherry added that his main aim was not to just try to retain the team’s status in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League. “I’m a little more ambitious than that,” he added. “I would expect to finish higher up the table, of course, and to have one or two good cup runs.
“So far there has been a lot of positivity within the club and I’m very much looking forward to the new season."
