ALEX Pope is continuing to have talks with Wellington Football Club's chairman Mike Hall over his future with the Toolstation League club.

Pope, joint manager during the past season, has been offered the job as sole manager.

"I haven't decided yet what to do," he said this week. "I am texting or talking to Mike every other day.

"I'm trying to work out just how much of an impact I can make if I do decide to stay. There are elements of it which excite me and that excitement may tip the balance.

"I will not be making a decision likely. I want it to be the right decision - both for the club and me.

He added: "I want to help the club progress. What I don't want to do is to continue being in a similar position as we are now. I'm ambitious but at the moment I'm taking some time out."

The manager's job has become vacant following the decision of Tim Legg to step down. He and Pope ran the side jointly last season.

Wellington finished in 15th place in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League, one spot below the previous season.

Legg and Pope had hoped to finish mid-table, and at one time they looked like doing this. Although they were well down the table, they had games in hand to move up.

But while they have proved a difficult side to beat, they have also found it difficult to win games - only nine in 36 games this season.

Some clubs in the premier division have been paying their players 'silly' money and Wellington will certainly not be going down this route. Wellington believe their playing budget is adequate to make them competitive in the division.

Meanwhile, Wellington Reserves look like they are going to finish third in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League. The only team who can catch them are Exeter University 3rds but they have to win all their remaining matches to achieve this.
