Porter's late penalty earns Wellington draw at Helston

WELLINGTON'S much changed side gained a splendid 2-2 draw in their opening match of the season away to Helston in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League yesterday (Sat).

Wellington looked like heading for a defeat when they trailed 2-0 at the interval. But they fought back to equalise in the second half and take an unexpected point.

After making the long 130-mile plus journey by coach, Wellington competed well in the opening 20 minutes but fell behind when the ball was played through to Rikki Shepherd who clipped the ball past new goalkeeper Mike Murphy in the 22nd minute.

And they fell further behind ten minutes later when a cross was turned in by Rubin Wilson.

Murphy kept Wellington in the game with a splendid save in the 54th minute before Wellington got themselves back in the match on 62 minutes when James Cottrill's shot was deflected into the goal by a defender.

And six minutes from time they drew level when Rohan Poulsom was brought down in the penalty box and Porter stepped up to score from the spot-kick.
