DAVE Farrow, 57, is the new chairman of Wellington Rugby Club Mini and Juniors Section. He takes over from Shaun Bridden.

The new chairman said: “As things stand we will be starting training at the beginning of September, albeit with restrictions set by the RFU and in a Covid-secure way.

“I would like the community to know that we are still here and looking to grow. We have currently 250 youngsters on our books. Given the current emphasis on children’s mental and physical health and the links to positive mental health of physical activity there are some really positive messages that we could promote through the section around teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

“In many ways now is a great time for children and young people to give rugby a go if they haven’t already as initially activities will be restricted to training and will be skills based with no contact – which only starts at U9 anyway in normal events.

“ I would also like to build on last season successes of the club’s 1st XV which contained a proportion of players who have come through the clubs mini and junior sections.

“I think 90 per cent of the current lst XV came up through the youth ranks.”
