WELLINGTON Rugby Club's head coach Bradley Field admits his new role will be 'a challenge.'

Field, formerly assistant coach to Graham Dawe who stepped down at the end of last season, has been pleased with the numbers turning up already for pre-season training at the Athletic Ground on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have also been joined by the club's Under 18s.

"It is my first senior role in coaching and I'm looking forward to it," he said.

"We have had some new and old faces at training - and I've been delighted with their attitude," he said.

"I’ll be bringing a fresh style of play to the Athletic Ground. We have a young and enthusastic squad and we will be looking to play fast and quick rugby which is exciting to watch.

“It’s a real privilege to be part of a club with such strong roots and potential, and I’m looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

When announcing his appointment last month, the club said: "We are also pleased Brad has agreed to put his boots back on and play when required. To have someone of Brad's experience to both coach and play is a huge plus for Wellington Rugby Football Club.

"Brad started his rugby journey with Wellington RFC at Under-5s and progressed through every age group to reach the first team.

"Brad represented England Students, enabling him to showcase his skills at national level while still in education.

"Brad's skills were soon recognised by Bath Rugby Academy, where he continued his development at an elite level. He went on to represent Hartpury College and later Gloucester Rugby.

“He also made his mark on the 7s circuit, playing for such teams as Woodenspoon 7s and North Wales Exiles 7s.

“He ended his professional career with Doncaster Knights where he regularly turned out in the Championship."
