WELLINGTON’S hopes of winning their first rugby match of the season in Regional Two South West were dashed when they slumped to a 40-12 loss away to Teignmouth.

Wellington went into the game having lost all seven of their fixtures so far and propping up the table while Teignmouth had lost their last five matches after opening the season with two victories - both on home soil.

Teignmouth, in tenth spot before the game, took the lead in the 16th minute when they scored a try which was converted. They stretched their lead only six minutes later with another converted try to lead 14-0.

The Devon side continued to dominate and went 21-0 up after half an hour’s play with another seven-pointer, which was the only score for the remainder of the half.

Teignmouth went on to lead 33-0 with two more tries in the second half, one converted, before Will Brewer snapped up a try for the visitors.

Refusing to throw in the towel, Wellington scored another try through Evan Greening, this time converted, to make the score 33-12 before Teignmouth had the final say with another converted try towards the end to finish comfortable winners.

Weston super Mare maintained their 100 per cent record with a 35-17 away victory over North Petherton in a Friday night fixture. It enabled them to stay eight points clear of second-placed Tiverton who won 53-16 at home to ninth-placed Crediton.

Wellington 2nd XV were due to play away to Wyvern in Counties Three Somerset South in Taunton but conceded the game because they could not field a front row, and instead played a friendly. It also leaves them bottom of the table.

Wellington lst XV are without a fixture on Saturday, November 16, but return to action the following Saturday when they entertain Winscombe.
