WELLINGTON Rugby Club’s player-coach Matt Parsons and forwards coach Steve Pape are to meet club officials this week.
Parsons said last night: “I don’t know what is happening next season – it’s all a bit hush, hush.
“I would like to continue next season but I have not been told anything.”
Wellington ended the season in tenth place in Western Counties North after beating Avon 39-14 in their last match at the Athletic Ground on Saturday.
The previous weekend they played their best rugby of the season to beat fourth-placed Stroud 37-0 at home.
“We’ve struggled to field our strongest side all season,” added Parsons. “We’ve had numerous injuries and players unavailable for various reasons.
“We’ve also lost a number of games by close margins; games we could easily have won.
“But we have a young side and they will be a season wiser next winter. We’ve already shown that we’re fitter than most sides.”
Wellington’s final record was played 26, won 10, drawn one and lost 15, with a points deficit of minus 21.
Meanwhile, Wiveliscombe lst XV will end the rugby season in fifth place in Somerset Premier regardless of Saturday’s rearranged home game against Stothert and Pitt (3.00).
Coaches Peter and Brian Stone will be pleased with the season’s effort, particularly with displays in the second half of the season.
In their last game they gave new champions Yatton a run for their money before going down 25-16. At one stage of the game they were within two points of their rivals.
Wivey go into their last match having won eight of their last ten games.
Wellington 2nd XV will also be ending a successful season in Somerset One on Saturday when they play at home to their Chard counterparts who have already been relegated.
The South Somerset side have struggled all season and have won only four matches.
Wellington, on the other hand, will finish sixth despite not been able to field settled sides because of calls by the first team.
Wellington will be holding their annual dinner and dance in the clubhouse on Friday.
Wiveliscombe’s presentation night is the following Friday.
