THE new rugby season kicks off on Saturday, September 6, and local rugby followers at Wiveliscombe and Milverton now have two clubs to follow during the winter months.

Wiveliscombe RFC, who compete in Western Counties (West), ended their pre season build up with a competitive run out against the Rebels RFC. Before that

Cullompton visited Wiveliscombe’s Plain Pond which also proved a useful session.

Wiveys Second XV also had one pre season warm-up match against Tiverton Seconds - also at Plain Pond.

Wiveliscombe First XV open their league account with a home fixture against Redruth Seconds on the 6th September, with a 3 o’clock kick off.

Wivey Seconds make the short trip to Wyvern in Taunton for their opening game - also on the 6th September.

The following day, Sunday, 7th September, Wiveliscombe Colts open their 2025/2026 season with an away game against near neighbours Wellington which is always a hard fought encounter, so any support would be welcomed.

Wiveliscombe Ladies also travel to Wellington for their first fixture of the season which is a Cup match on the Sunday, 14th September.

Meanwhile Rebels RFC, who will play their home matches at Milverton Recreation Ground, open their 2025-26 season with a home match in Counties 2 Tribute Somerset against Bristol based St Bernadettes Old Boys.

Among the teams who compete in the same league as Rebels are Minehead RFC, Burnham on Sea, Clevedon, Castle Cary, Hornets, Keynsham and Oldfield Old Boys so anyone who goes along can be sure of having some exciting rugby action to watch.
