WELLINGTON lst XV face two ‘must-win’ games in Western Counties North in the next ten days, writes Barry Knott

They are third from bottom and play the two teams below them, bottom side Gordano away on Saturday and Barts Rugby at home the following weekend.

Wellington’s home game against unbeaten league leaders Matson over the weekend was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch – much to the disappointment of player-manager Matt Parsons.

He said yesterday: “We would have liked a game because if we played well it would have given up plenty of confidence for the match at Gordano.

“We know we have not had a good season but we have not been able to field a settled side and we’ve lost a lot of games by narrow margins.

“I think if we can win at Gordano it will give us a big boost for the rest of the season.”

Wellington have failed to win one of their last four matches but victories in their next two games would virtually guarantee them Western Counties rugby next season.

Wellington skipper Micky Norman was expected to be on the bench for the game against Matson and Wellington will have to decide whether to put him in the starting line-up against Gordano or again name him as a replacement.

Wiveliscombe lst XV, whose match against Stothert & Pitt on Saturday was another victim of the weather, are away to Old Redcliffians in Somerset Premier while Wivey 2nds are home to their Tor counterparts in Somerset Two South.

Wellington 2nds are home to Clevedon 2nds in Somerset One.
