FOLLOWING eight seasons of successful service, Graham Dawe is stepping down as head coach of Wellington RFC.

IN a statement the club says: “Graham had an illustrious playing career, representing England six times and played his rugby for Bath during their most successful period when he packed down hundreds of times next to his great friend and Wellington legend Richard Lee.

“Graham’s connections with Wellington continued and he took over the head coach position in the 2017/18 season captained by Paddy Jarman.

“Almost immediately it was obvious Graham not only was an expert in rugby coaching but also a tremendous character who breathed new life into the club.

“He guided us through some incredible years, yet has done so in a humble manner, being available to anyone in the clubhouse after games.

“This was further demonstrated at the end of this, our 150th season, as Graham joined our tour to Barcelona and further cemented his status as an all-round good guy.

“It’s been both a pleasure and honour to have someone of Graham’s calibre and standing coaching our amateur community club and the void he leaves will take some filling.

”Our 1st XV record since Graham joined us: 65% win rate; Cornwall & Devon League Champions; Western Countries League Champions; Somerset Vase Winners; Somerset Cup finalists; South-West Division National Intermediate Cup Winners beating Swindon (A); We were due to play South Division Final National Intermediate Cup at home against Old Colfeians with the winners going onto play at Twickenham, unfortunately this was hit by COVID; Majorca Maga Beach Rugby Shield Winners.

“Behind a great man is a great woman and Graham’s wife, Liz, has been ever present and has shown unwavering support for us.

“They’ve both brought so much to our club and provided great memories and from all the WRFC players and members we are indebted to you both.”
