WIVELISCOMBE Rugby Club ended the 2025/26 season with their annual dinner and presentation evening at their Recreation Ground headquarters, writes Roger Bellamy.
This turned out to be a special evening following an excellent season with the rugby played throughout the club’s age groups - from first fifteen right down to the juniors.
Celebrations were that extra special this time around after the club’s first fifteen gained promotion as champions to Regional Two South West - the highest level the club has reached since the leagues were formed.
Presentations were made to individuals and groups who had given their time in a multitude of areas to enable the club to function successfully over the last eight months,
Awards included: Supporter of the year Dennis and Emma Quick; Volunteer of the year Emma Weaver; Stanley T Hold Cup for best playing club member skipper Will Ellis; Sid Woodbury Memorial Trophy for non playing club member Baz Lockyer; Ladies players player Meg Wignall; Ladies most improved player Holy McDowell; Len Lloyd Memorial Cup for 2nd team player of the year Luke Stevens: Ern Greedy Memorial Trophy for most improved player Jack Lee; Trevor Coates Memorial Trophy for breakthrough player of the year Oll Stanbury; David Warren Cup for most improved Colt player Lewis May; Colts coaches award to Olly Stanbury; J Land Memorial Trophy for Colt of the year shared between three players, Luke Barrington, Kayden Bush and Jack Lee; WRFC Players player of the year Will Ruell.
Wiveliscombe Rugby has seen players of several ages involved in Somerset County senior and Junior rugby development squads and representative games throughout the past couple of seasons. Will Ellis, Sam Habberfield, Matt Ellis, Olly Stanbury, Jack Lee and Arthur Irvine have all had a taste of wearing a Somerset shirt and hopefully can goon to represent the county many times in the future.
