WELLINGTON crashed by 173 runs away to Taunton St Andrews in the quarter-finals of the Baker Cup 20-overs a side competition at the Wyvern on Monday evening.

Batting stars for the Saints were James Rew, who hit 12 sixes in his 116 not out, and Toby Williams-Thomas, who scored 119 in 41 balls, knocking 14 sixes.

Wellington's bowlers had no answer to this swash-buckling pair who shared in a 199-run second wicket stand. Non of Wellington's bowlers escaped the onslaught.

Facing a target of scoring at more than 14 an over, Wellington's batters wilted in the evening heat with only Sandaken Pathirana making any kind of impression, scoring 32 in 19 balls.

Luke Poole was the Saints' destroyer, taking a remarkable 6-18 in 17 balls.
