THE Chris Bullock Championship in Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League will have a new name on the trophy this season as defending champions Mowers were officially knocked out of the title race following a shock defeat to King Pins.
Meanwhile, league leaders Ex-Servicemen got back on track with a victory over Odds and Ends, while Scuppas kept the pressure on with a dominant away win over All Stars.
Ex-Servicemen 362, Odds and Ends 332: Lee Baker, enjoying some fine form of late, was the top score for Ex-Servicemen with 54, supported by Geoff Hamlyn’s 53.
All Stars 366, Scuppas 399: Scuppas kept the pressure up on the leaders with a strong 33-pin win away to All Stars. Scuppas’ Dave Squire hit a 56, which included a 23 in the fourth hand.
King Pins 374, Mowers 342: Steve ‘Knocker’ Powell hit a fantastic 60 for the Pins to help his side reach a strong score.
Foresters 388, WRFC 414: Rugby Club went big at the White Horse to see off Foresters by 26 pins to move within a point of Mowers. Cliff Trott top scored for the rugby club with 59.
Outsiders 338, United Services 345: United Services saw Kev Austin lead the line with an impressive and vital 54 which helped his side take the win. A good game played in great spirits.
Home Guard IV 369, Here 4 the Beer 393: Here 4 the Beer found their rhythm early as they set about chasing down their target, Adam Morgan leading from the front with a stunning 63.
Gerald Thorne Championship:
THE Gerald Thorne Championship remains wide open after league leaders Cottage Pies suffered a narrow defeat to OBA.
Reservists seized their chance to close the gap with a dominant win over Report Centre A.
Holywell Lake also kept pace with a good victory over Rebels.
OBA 372, Cottage Pies 366: OBA captain, Andy Kemp, led the line for his team with a scintillating 62 to see the home side to a strong total. Sam Vile, one of the Cottage Pies’ players of the season so far, scored 59 in his teams chase, but the title chasers fell agonisingly short.
Report Centre A 386, Reservists 422: Reservists saw Steve Tubb score a fantastic 62 as they went big and got over the line by a comfortable margin of 36 pins.
Rebels 365, Holywell Lake 372: Lee Newberry was the pick of the Lakers’ players with a vital 57 in their reply, helping get them past their target to take the three points on offer.
Queens Legs 396, Bell Green 407: Bell Green knew they would have to go big, and they did just that with Jason Powell hitting a strong 59 for the Bee Gees to see them to the win and into the 400s.
Hot Shots 341, Relyon 354: Relyon saw Mike Hutchings hit their top score for the second week running, this time knocking a superb 64 pins for the Bedders to take the game by 13 pins.
Shooters 391, Fireguard A 387: Adrian Maidment hit a fantastic 63 for Shooters to help the hosts to a seriously strong score.
Club Rockers 321, Oaks 318: Celtlan Hyland scored 44 for the Rockers who went on to record their third highest home score so far this season.
