ELIZABETH Deem, of Wellington, was a member of the Somerset team which won the LTA National Tennis Summer Over 30s League, alongside Kerry Quirk, Natalie Ackland and Maia Dunn (all from Taunton TC).

The finals of the competition were held at Nottingham where the local side gained a convincing 5-0 victory over Yorkshire.

Natalie and Liz both won their singles matches and then teamed up for a doubles win and Kerry and Maia won their two doubles matches to give a final result of a 5 - 0 victory.

The team will now go on to compete in the European Finals to be staged in Turkey next year, which will be a daunting prospect with some of the best players on the Continent taking part. However, the team is very experienced and looking forward to what will surely be a big challenge.

Liz said: “I have been playing for 40 years and first started playing at Wellington Tennis Club and have continued to be a member, representing the club at both junior and senior level.

“The club welcomes both members and non members and courts can be booked by searching for Wellington Tennis Clubspark online. Reduced daylight hours are no barrier as the courts are floodlit for a small additional charge”.

*Wellington Tennis Club is based at the Playing Field and is an enthusiastic, family-friendly club offering a variety of daytime and evening sessions along with four hours of junior coaching on Saturdays.

The club have many committed adults who enjoy both social and competitive tennis and field teams in the West Somerset League and encourage the club’s juniors to participate in these.

The club particularly welcome new members, who are turning to tennis, and have some sessions suitable for beginners.
