FOURTEEN-year-old Court Fields student Tom Trowbridge has come agonisingly close to winning his first senior event - despite playing againt some of the best golfers in the South West.

He came third in the prestigious Devon Order of Merit 36-hole season opener at Saunton in an event which attracted 140 golfers.
