WELLINGTON’S hopes of ending the year at the Playing Field with a victory were dashed when they lost 2-1 to title-chasing Bridgwater United in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League yesterday (Tues).

Wellington played well enough to have come away with a point and substitute Jordan Hayman went mighty close to scoring a last-gasp equaliser, his effort hitting a defender on the goalline.

In fact, Wellington shocked their neighbours by taking a tenth minute lead when Sully McKenna scored from a low cross by Lewis Jennings.

But United, looking for a return to the Southern League, were back on level terms within ten when Jay Murray found the back of the net.

And it was Murray who popped up to score what turned out to be the winning goal four minutes into the second half.

The result sums up Wellington’s season - so close and yet so far!
