WELLINGTON are home to Chard in a top of the table clash in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League today (Sat, 12.30).

Arron Campbell's boys go into the game with a 100 per cent record this season and a nine-point lead over the South Somerset outfit.

Wellington made it eight wins in succession when they beat Taunton away last Saturday by four wickets, but not before a top-order collapse by their batters in a low-scoring game.

But Jack Beal (21) came to the rescue, sharing an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand with young Jacob Hurry who won't score a better seven not out this season.

"We have players who have the ability to deal with these sort of situations," said club chairman Mark Salter. "The side has plenty of depth and character."

Chard have lost only one match this season and gained a six-wicket away victory over North Petherton last Saturday in a game which produced 450 runs.

All the indications are that today's game should be an exciting and close match with Wellington having the opportunity to open up a much bigger lead at the top.

Wellington 2nd XI, now second in Division Four of the Somerset League after beating Lydford Sports last time out, are away to Trull.

Wellington 3rd XI, who are also second in Division Seven Red, are home to West Monkton - the match being played at Sampford Arundel.

Meanwhile Wiveliscombe, second in Division Three but 60 runs behind leaders Yeovil, are home to Taunton St Andrews A XI, who are sixth.

In the second division of the West Somerset League, leaders Ashbrittle entertain second-placed East Huntspill in another top of the table clash with 47 points separately the teams. Ashbrittle also have a crucial game in hand, having won all seven of their fixtures this season.

Division Three leaders Watchet will be back in action when they play at home to Cannington, who are lying fifth.

Sampford Arundel, who have a 32-point lead at the top of Division Four, have an away derby match against Hemyock, who are fifth.

Teams in action in the Taunton & District Youth League this evening (Fri) include Bagborough, Wiveliscombe, Stogumber and Brompton Ralph.

There is a full programme of matches in the league tomorrow.
