WITH two players - both midfielders - having suffered broken bones, Wellington have made an unlucky start to the football season.

Ryan Brereton has a fractured ankle, which he sustained at Helston, while Kieran Ireland has a broken leg following an 'innocuous' tackle in the FA Cup against Bideford last week.

"Obviously, it's disappointing for these two lads," said Wellington's assistant player manager Jack Porter.

"You have to feel very sorry for them. It's not what them or us wanted.

"Ryan's injury is not as serious as we first thought, he's not in plaster, but Kieran will be out for some time.

"We gave a good account of ourselves against Bideford. Some of the lads had not played against a side at that level before and yet we remained competitive throughout."

Meanwhile, Wellington go into today's (Sat) game away to Torpoint Athletic in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League with only one point from their opening two away matches.

"I believe if we can show the same commitment as we did against Bideford, we're quite capable of coming away with at least a pointed," added Porter.
