WELLINGTON enter the last third of the season with a 24-point lead at the top of the Somerset Division in the West of England Premier Cricket League - and with every prospect of the title and promotion.

They have only six more games to play, the first being away to fourth-place Frome today (Sat). Next month, they have a comparatively easy run against sides seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth in the table.

They end the season with a home game on Saturday, September 2, against Taunton who lost by four wickets on their own patch to Wellington earlier this month.

Wellington, still unbeaten, received only six points from their cancelled home game against Wembdon last Saturday but this made no difference to their position at the top of the table.

The only team to get more than six points last weekend were Frome who gained seven at North Petherton. The match was abandoned with the home side on 71-3.

Wellington have shown this season they have strength in depth with a number of players able to dominate even when things are not going their way. There have been a number of games in which they have been in trouble, but there has always been a player able to come to the rescue.

After today's game, Wellington's final fixtures are: Aug 5 home v St Andrews (seventh), 12 away v North Perrott (eighth), 19 home v Butleigh (tenth), 26 away v North Petherton (ninth). Sept 2 home v Taunton (fifth).

It has been a good season for Wellington's senior sides with their second string top of Division Four of the Somerset League. They go into today's home game against North Curry with a 13-point lead over second-placed Spaxton who have a game in hand.

Wellington 3rd XI, lying second in Division Seven Red, are home to Chard at Sampford Arundel.

In the first division of the West Somerset League, leaders Kilve are away to League Cup finalists Bridgetown while main title rivals Bagborough are home to Winsford. Second division leaders Ashbrittle play at Stoodleigh while unbeaten Watchet are away to North Curry Saints in Division Three.

Sampford Arundel entertain Over Stowey in a top of the table clash in Division Four.
