WELLINGTON AFC’s first team made a 200-mile round trip to Cornwall on Saturday, November 29 - and ended up without kicking a ball.
They travelled to St Austell, only for their game in the premier division of the Jewson Western Football League to be called off before it started.
The referee inspected the pitch and decided that it was unplayable, particularly in the two goalmouths, following heavy rain in the days leading up to the game. The match will now be replayed on a date to be fixed.
It meant that the Cornish side remained at the bottom of the table, having lost all 19 of the league games this season, with a minus goals difference of 103 and almost certainly facing relegation, although only one side will go down.
Despite the bad weather, a number of games were played in the division with Clevedon Town maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the table with a 4-0 away success against Buckland Athletic who would have gone fifth if they had won.
Sidmouth Town kept in touch with the leaders in second place with a hard-fought 2-1 home win over St Blazey who lost for the 11th time this season.
Third-placed Torpoint Athletic did not play but Paulton Rovers moved up to fourth in the table despite dropping crucial points in a 1-1 away draw at Saltash United which left them just outside the top-five.
Mid-table Helston Athletic scored twice in the second half to beat Bradford Town 2-0 away while Ivybridge Athletic won by the same scoreline at home to Shepton Mallet.
Street took all three points after winning 4-1 at home to Bridgwater United who slumped to their ninth defeat of the season after starting the season looking to win promotion.
